Maison Metcalf proved to be an ideal place for a holiday for our group of 8 friends - lots of space, lovely, big kitchen and dining room, table tennis, table football and plenty of places in the garden for relaxing, eating, swimming and garden games. Great places to visit, fun canoeing and excellent restaurants nearby. Lovely sunsets too! Thank you to David and Lee who were ideal hosts. A great holiday.

This felt like our student days again. We were 4 retired couples who have known each other for many years but never holidayed together. This was the perfect base with plenty to do on site from swimming, Kubb (Viking chess) and table tennis to board games and crosswords (well, one crossword which lasted all week) We really appreciated the welcome dinner after problems getting out of Bordeaux where the bridge was closed and we were getting used to left hand drive hire cars but David had given us clear, detailed directions so we found the gite easily. Apart from one evening barbeque we enjoyed trying local restaurants each evening -there were many suggestions from David and Lee and also from previous guests. There is plenty to do in the area and the surrounding countryside is beautiful, there are old towns with stunning architecture, the vineyards of Bordeaux in easy reach and it's less busy than areas further south on the Dordogne. We hope to visit again and have already recommended Maison Metcalf to friends and family.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Our room was well equipped with a great shower, plenty of storage and comfortable bed. There is a large garden with pool and seating areas and space for children (or adults!) to play games. Also an indoor games room with table tennis and table football and a sitting room that guests can use. David and Lee were so helpful with ideas for good restaurants nearby and also suggestions of lovely places to visit (St Emillion, Aubterre sur Dronne and Brantome ) They also arranged canoeing for some of our group.

Have just returned from a fabulous holiday at Maison Metcalf. It was an ideal venue for 13 family members ranging in age from 11 weeks to 60, plenty of space to accommodate everyone's different needs but also indoor and outdoor seating to allow for complete family dining experiences. The pool is a lovely size- large enough for the adults to swim a few lengths or play games yet not too overwhelming for the smaller family members. Lee and David are the perfect hosts-inconspicuous yet always there if any help or advice needed.

Just fantastic break. Thank you for being so well equipped, so relaxed and just having a brilliantly quirky house. LOVED IT. We will be back!
Kersey family, UK - August 2017
Had a super break, the children loved the space to run around and the vast array of toys here. So well equipped, will only need to bring half the stuff next time! Very relaxed atmosphere and lovely surrounding areas. Thanks very much: will be back soon x

We Enjoyed our stay at Maison Metcalf. Big house, plenty of space inside and out for our big family. 12 of us all together aged from 5 to 56. David and Lee were very welcoming and on hand if we had any questions, gave us plenty of recommendations and advice on local attractions/events. Children loved the pool, only had a few days of sunshine but we made the most of it!
Alana & family, UK - July 2017
My family stayed at Maison Metcalf last week and loved every minute of it. There was plenty of room for the 12 of us. The gite had loads of character as well as comfy beds and modern showers. The pool was super and we couldn't keep the kids out of it. Lee and David are a lovely couple and the welcome pack was a nice thought. Everything we needed was provided. Only regret was that we booked for a week, we should have booked two. We would love to come back and see more of France.
K.Doyle & family, UK - July 2017
We were part of the Doyle group mentioned above. We slept in the two loft rooms and enjoyed the extra space in the area. The house literally catered for all our needs (including push chairs, high chairs, travel cots and loads of plastic cutlery/bowls etc for the children). The children made great use of the pool everyday, and the outside areas allowed for safe playing in the fresh air. The large house allowed our little family of four the space we needed as well as to sit, eat and enjoy the larger spaces with with other family members.

I recently spent two weeks with my family at the wonderful Maison Metcalf. The location was fantastic allowing for easy day trips to the stunning Saint-Émilion, Aubeterre, Bourdeilles, Le Pizou and my favourite; Brantôme to name a few! In saying that; the beautiful, child friendly home (high chairs, cots, toys, books, DVDs, games, live chickens and Rosy the goat), it's tranquil surroundings and inviting fenced pool make spending quality down time at home just as special. Thanks so much to Lee and David for your hospitality and knowledge. We will certainly return and will definitely recommend.

We had a fantastic week at Maison Metcalf in August. Our two young boys loved swimming in the pool each day and playing with all the inflatables which were kindly provided. The large garden and multiple outdoor toys meant that we were able to spend entire days relaxing and entertaining ourselves without having to get in the car. Feeding Rosie the goat was fun too! David and Lee were always available to offer tips on places to see and visit and without them we would not have discovered great days out such as the wonderful farming show in the neighbouring village. Maison Metcalf is ideally situated to enjoy the peace and tranquility of country life whilst being within a short drive of lovely villages and lakes where we swam and climbed trees. A thoroughly enjoyable week was had by parents and children alike and we would thoroughly recommend this gite to others.
John T, UK - August 2016
Spent two weeks at the fabulous maison Metcalf. Had everything one would want for a family holiday in the sunshine. Fab bedrooms, well stocked kitchen, beautiful garden, pool and even a super friendly goat that the kids just loved to feed. Lee and David are wonderful people and have lots of advice on things to do and places to eat. Highly recommend Maison Metcalf and hope to be back again sometime!

We had a fantastic 2 weeks in Maison Metcalf celebrating my mum’s 70th birthday. There were 10 of us aged 4-70 and the house caters perfectly for all ages. The kids loved feeding Rosie the goat and the chickens as well as playing badminton and all the space to run around. The adults enjoyed the flexible outdoor space and everyone loved the pool. The house is spacious and comfortable. We had two great days at La Paradou where the huge inflatable slide / climbing wall / trampoline in the lake was unlike anything I’ve seen before! David and Lee were warm and welcoming hosts, even organising an Olympics games party for the kids on the first day of Rio 2016. I’d definitely recommend Maison Metcalf to anyone looking for a relaxed family holiday.
Helen J, UK - August 2016
Thoroughly enjoyed our recent week at Maison Metcalf. Child friendly garden, swimming area, house and hosts. Wonderful space indoors to lose each other for some quiet time or gather together and make happy summer memories. Loved the chickens with fresh eggs and felt quite eco friendly feeding food scraps to Rosie the goat. A wonderful time- thank you Lee and David.

I had an amazing week there with 3 friends, great house, wonderful hosts and lovely area. Strongly recommend it for group or family.
Steve M , UK - July 2016
Our group of 14 with 6 small children (ages 2-6) had great fun exploring the (very safely contained) garden, playing with the outdoor games, and most of all splashing in the well-presented swimming pool. Indoors there were plenty of toys, and we had large indoor play spaces when we wanted to keep them out of the sun. Despite some very warm days, even the rooms at the top of the house weren't too hot to be comfortable, and all of the bedrooms were nicely furnished & had comfy beds. The group's grown-ups found the cooking & catering facilities excellent, with room for 16 to dine al fresco, and then enough room inside (far enough from childrens' bedrooms!) to enjoy the evenings. Our hosts were very thoughtful, full of good advice about the local area, and couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy. I hope the chickens and the goat have recovered from all of the attention and leftovers our children snuck over to them.

4 adults arrived for the Euros 2016 football. Location was superb: Bordeaux, St Emilion and lovely little towns and villages nearby to visit. Our hosts (David & Lee) were excellent, and made a fantastic first impression. They waited up to well past midnight to guide us in and the welcome pack of wine cheese bread and biscuits was desperately required by the time we arrived. Tea and coffee and soft drinks were also available. The house was very well appointed, Wifi and good HD TV for the football, my most important items. The information file with "places to visit" was extremely valuable, but more importantly our hosts were regularly available to answer queries and offer advice to make travel plans: on one occasion they escorted us to a nearby pub/restaurant. I cannot criticise anything about this place. To enhance your stay: SatNav is a must. 10/10 to Dave and Lee.
Brian with friends, UK - June 2016
We spent 2 weeks in May, at the amazing Maison Metcalf!! Went with my family and found it very child friendly, and the fenced pool was an added bonus. The location was perfect with a great variety of restaurants and activities close by. I would highly recommend and looking forward to returning soon. Thank you David and Lee for a great time.

This is a lovely property. We were 10 from 4-70. There is space for everyone. We had wet days but there was still plenty to do and see. The bathrooms were excellent and appreciated. The pool was well used. We had an excellent welcome and really enjoyed our stay. Our son in law has booked for next year already.
Waters Family, New Zealand - August 2015
We were a family of 10 over 3 generations. The house was excellent and the grounds spacious. The goat was fed regularly and enthusiastically by the children. We enjoyed our time so much our son in law, Simon, has booked for next year already. The pool was good and enjoyed by all. BBQ and outside eating areas good and much enjoyed as was large dining room. Bedrooms excellent and ensuite appreciated.
Waters Family, New Zealand - August 2015
We all thoroughly enjoyed our week with you and it was a perfect way to celebrate as a family a 60th birthday. The children even enjoyed the cloudy day visits to the local markets and your eating house recommendations were much appreciated. Overall we had a wonderful week and would like to thank you for making it so enjoyable.
Thank you from the Dawson family, UK - August 2015
We loved it. The best gite ever in many visits to France. Big pool, exceptionally comfortable beds, powerful modern showers, peace, tranquility and really nice, helpful owners who live next door.
Wilken Party, Ireland - July 2015
We had a wonderful holiday at Maison Metcalf! The kids absolutely loved the pool, running around the big orchard, and feeding the goats. Dave and Lee were great hosts, and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We stayed in the house as a group with another family, and it was very spacious with private spaces for relaxing as well as sociable spaces for sharing cooking and having fun together. We also had lots of very yummy fresh fruit and veg from Dave and Lee's veggie patch (mmm, delicious tomatoes!).
It's in a beautiful area with plenty to do. There's a big play park and lake for swimming and playing on the beach called Le Paradou, just two minute drive or pleasant walk/cycle away – our 8 year old particularly enjoyed all the pool tables and air hockey, and our 6 year old loved the go karts, trampolines, and the massive (slightly scary) water slide! There are lovely historic towns and villages nearby, and loads of different activities. We could easily have stayed for a month and not been bored. Thanks Dave and Lee and we hope to come back again before long.
Wightman family, UK - August 2014
We spent two weeks in August in the lovely Maison Metcalf. The pool is fantastic and our kids were in it every single day. Bedrooms are great and the house is spacious, with large grounds. We really enjoyed the local area, where we visited the local beach and fun park, which was 5 minutes drive. We also visited local villages and markets, went canoeing (also only a short drive) and tried ParcArbor. If you are looking for a traditional French Gite holiday, with plenty to do nearby, but also lovely space to relax in at home, then I highly recommend Maison Metcalf.
Skinner Family, UK - August 2014
We stayed here in August as part of a large party with all age groups including small children. The house and gardens are ideal for a multi age group gathering such as a family celebration or get together. The children were safe and had plenty to do in the large garden and the setting was beautifully tranquil for us older ones. The house was really interesting with a lot of period features retained but with modern bathrooms and kitchens! A bonus was the nearby leisure park (only about ten minutes walk away) with a water slide, bouncy castles, trampolines etc. It only cost four Euros for the whole day and the adjoining lakeside beach and cafe were free. The kids loved it and we loved having lunch out.
The owners, who live on the property, are very friendly and helpful.
